China’s cell phone phenomenon Xiaomi has started producing e-bikes. They are now in the process of crowd funding a 120KM range e-moped scooter for 2,999 yuan (around $450 USD). The HIMO T1 e-moped is expected to be available in early June of 2019 for the Chinese domestic market.

HIMO T1 e-Moped

The HIMO electric moped T1 can output 1344Wh of power at an 85% high energy efficiency conversion rate. The rear hub is equipped with a claimed 350 watt brushless motor that is speculated to be closer to 750 watts of peak power.

The reasoning being that with a 48 V battery the bike would need just a 7 amp controller to meet 350 watts. However, if it were equipped with a 15 amp or 20 amp controller it could reach a peak power in the range of 720-960 watts.

While the HIMO T1 is equipped with a working pedal chain it is obviously there for legislative reasons. Like most mopeds there’s very little functionality to be found employing these bikes in bicycle mode.

HIMO Battery Pack

The battery pack features an intelligent battery management system (BMS) providing real time protection for each of the thirteen lithium ion modules.

The 48 volt pack is equipped with a total capacity of 14000 mAh, with an optional 28000 mAh pack. The 28000 mAh pack can provide up to 120KM.

The current legislation in China sets electric bicycles to a max speed of 25 km/h (15.5 mph) and max weight of 55 kg (121 lb). Xiaomi’s specifications conform with these rules with a claimed 25 km/h top speed and a weight of 53 kg.

HIMO Regenerative Braking

To stop the HIMO they’ve included three braking systems. The front brake is a typical hydraulic disc controlled from the right hand lever. For the rear wheel the left lever can trigger both regenerative braking, and a cable to a rear drum. From top speed (~15mph) Xiaomi claims the bike can stop in 4.5 meters.

Controls

The headlight and dash are shaped in an ionic squared O to match the HIMO logo, and the T1 provides a USB charging port—which is obviously there for your Xiaomi cell phone.

The T1 is suspended with hydraulic front forks, and a pair of coil over shocks in the rear.

Over all this is an incredible amount of bike for under $500.
